Meanings

Usage
Choufa is the noun derived from the verb chaf, ychouf ("to see, to look"). It means a look, often qualified by an adjective that specifies its intent. The typical construction is chaf fih choufa…, literally "he looked at him with a look…". Choufa na9sa means a contemptuous, belittling look. Choufa ghriba is a strange look. It is also used for a view or panorama: choufa zwina men l-fou9. The word belongs to the everyday and informal register. Note: looking at someone is constructed with the preposition f ("chaf fiyya"), never with a direct object.
