Moroccan Darija · expression

Meanings
- temperature (weather, body)
Usage
Darajat l-7arara is the weather-report and media phrase for "temperature". It comes from Standard Arabic and keeps a fairly formal tone. In everyday conversation, people say more simply l-7rara (the heat) or quote the degrees directly: l-yum kayna 35 daraja. For fever, s-sxana is preferred. You will therefore hear it mostly in the news, or from someone speaking in a measured way. In a casual exchange, it sounds a bit bookish.
Example
درجة الحرارة غادي تطلع غدا
darajat l-7arara ghadi tTle3 ghedda
“The temperature is going to rise tomorrow.”
