dehbi دهبي
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“dehbi” (دهبي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning golden, gold-coloured.
Meanings
- golden, gold-coloured
- my gold, my gold jewelry
Usage
Dehbi has two readings depending on context. As an adjective, it means golden or gold-coloured, and it agrees in gender: dehbiya in the feminine. Example: "tkchita dehbiya" (a golden caftan). As a possessive noun, it is dheb plus the suffix -i: "dehbi" then means "my gold", that is, my gold jewelry, as in "nbi3 dehbi" (to sell my gold). Only context can decide. Dahbi is also a common family name, not to be confused with the adjective.
Example
راه دهبي هاد اللون
rah dehbi had loun
“This colour is golden.”
