dorek دورك

Moroccan Darija · expression

“dorek” (دورك) is an expression in Moroccan Darija meaning your turn (in a queue, an order).

Meanings

  1. your turn (in a queue, an order)
  2. your role

Usage

Dorek is formed from the noun dor, "turn" or "role", and the possessive -ek, "your". You hear it constantly in queues, at the doctor's or at a counter: ja dorek, "it's your turn"; tsenna dorek, "wait your turn". The same construction works for the other persons: dori (my turn), doro (his/her turn), dorna (our turn). In a more abstract sense, dorek can mean "your role, your part", for example in a project. Note: dori can also be the feminine imperative of "to turn".

Example

سير ڭلّس ليك رتاح شوية بما جا دورك

“Go sit down and rest a little until your turn comes.”
