drdech دردش

Moroccan Darija · verb

“drdech” (دردش) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to chat, to talk.

Meanings

  1. to chat, to talk
  2. to chat online

Usage

Drdech refers to a relaxed conversation with nothing particular at stake, between friends, colleagues or neighbors. It is used with m3a ("with") to indicate the other person: drdech m3ah, "he chatted with him". In the present tense, one says ydrdech, ndrdech; the conjugation follows the pattern of four-consonant verbs. The word is also used for written exchanges on messaging apps and social networks. The term stays neutral and familiar. The corresponding noun, dardacha, means "chatter, a chat". It does not mean a "serious debate": for a substantive discussion, tkellem or hder is preferred.
