dyalo ديالو
Moroccan Darija · pronoun
“dyalo” (ديالو) is a pronoun in Moroccan Darija meaning his (possessive).
Meanings
- his (possessive)
- his (pronoun)
Usage
Dyalo combines dyal and the suffix -o ("he, him"). It indicates what belongs to a man or to a masculine object. It is placed after the noun, usually definite: lmachro3 dyalo, "his project". On its own, it means "his": machi dyalo, "it's not his". Online writing hesitates between -o and -ou (dyalo, dyalou), but the pronunciation is the same. It must be distinguished from dyalha, which refers to a female owner.
Example
لا، ماشي ديالو
lla, machi dyalo
“No, it's not his.”
