fa فا

Moroccan Darija · conjunction

“fa” (فا) is a conjunction in Moroccan Darija meaning then, so (introduces the consequence).

Meanings

  1. then, so (introduces the consequence)
  2. and then, next

Usage

Fa links two clauses, marking the consequence or logical sequel. It is heard mostly after a condition introduced by ila ("if"): ila… fa… corresponds to English "if…, then…". It is often followed by rah, which reinforces the statement. The register is neutral, slightly more polished in explanatory or argumentative speech. It should not be confused with f or fi, the preposition meaning "in, at". In online writing, it is often attached to the following word or separated by a comma. In relaxed conversation, it can also be omitted.

Example

إلا كانو البحارة، فا راه غادي يكون مجموعة كبيرة ديال شراب

ila kano lba7ara, fa rah ghadi ikon majmo3a kbira dya chrab

“If there are sailors, then there will be a big choice of drinks.”
