Sa9si سقسي

fdouli فضولي

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“fdouli” (فضولي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning curious, nosy.

Meanings

  1. curious, nosy
  2. meddlesome, sticking one's nose in everything

Usage

Fdouli describes a person who wants to know everything. Most often the word is pejorative and aimed at someone who asks too many questions or meddles in other people's affairs. The feminine is fdoulia, the plural fdoulyin. It is heard in sentences like "ma tkounch fdouli" ("don't be nosy") or "nta fdouli bzaf" ("you're too curious"). It is not used to describe a strange object: the sense "odd" of "curious" is not rendered by fdouli. The word is also used, more rarely, for positive intellectual curiosity.

Example

ما تكونش فضولي، هادشي ماشي سوقك

ma tkounch fdouli, hadchi machi sou9ek

“Don't be nosy, this is none of your business.”
