film فيلم
Moroccan Darija · noun
“film” (فيلم) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning film, movie.
Meanings
- film, movie
- drama, made-up story
Usage
Film is a well-integrated loanword in darija. It takes the Arabic article, l-film, and combines with darija verbs: chaf film (to watch a film), bda film (to start a film). The plural is aflam, a form from Arabic, or filmat. Colloquially, dar film or had chi film means someone is exaggerating or making up a story, a bit like "making a whole drama of it" in English. For a series, people say mousalsal or série instead.
Example
أجي نبداو شي فيلم
aji nbdaw chi film
“Come on, let's put on a film.”
