Meanings
- physics (school subject, science)
Usage
Fizik means physics, especially as a subject taught at school, high school or university. It is heard constantly in school vocabulary: l'ostad dyal lfizik, "the physics teacher", 3ndi fard f lfizik, "I have a physics test". The word is almost always definite (lfizik) and masculine. It does not refer to a person's physique: for appearance, people say chakl or zin. In Arabized education, the Arabic fiziya2 is also heard. Fizik is nonetheless the most natural form in everyday conversation.
