garaj ڭراج
Moroccan Darija · noun
“garaj” (ڭراج) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning garage (for parking).
Meanings
- garage (for parking)
- mechanic's garage
Usage
Graj is a borrowing from French "garage", adapted to Moroccan pronunciation and very common in use. It means the space where a car is parked, but also, often, a mechanic's workshop. In neighborhoods, it can also mean a ground-floor space rented out as a shop or a storage room. The most frequent plural is grajat. One says "ddit tomobil l graj" for "I took the car to the garage". It takes the article l-, like an Arabic noun.
