ghabi غبيّ
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“ghabi” (غبيّ) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning stupid, silly.
Meanings
- stupid, silly
Usage
Ghabi means "stupid" or "silly". It applies to a person (rah ghabi, "he's stupid") or to an idea or situation (hadchi ghabi, "that's stupid"). The feminine is ghabiya. The word comes from Standard Arabic but is well established in everyday speech, especially among young people. It is less crude than more colloquial terms like bhim or mkellekh. Said directly to someone, it is hurtful but not a serious insult. It is often softened: ghabi chwiya, "a bit stupid".
Example
راه غبي واحد شوية
rah ghaby wa7d chwiya
“He's a bit stupid.”
