Moroccan Darija · adjective

“hujumi” (هجومي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning offensive, attack-minded.

Meanings

  1. offensive, attack-minded
  2. aggressive, virulent (remarks)

Usage

Hujumi is an adjective taken from Standard Arabic. It means "offensive" in the sense of "oriented toward attack". It is used mainly in football ("la3b hujumi", attacking play) and in sports or political commentary. It can also describe an aggressive tone or speech. The feminine is hujumiya. Beware of a false friend: hujumi does not mean "offensive" in the sense of "insulting". To say that words hurt, use expressions like "kayjre7" (it hurts) or "klam khayb" (nasty words). The register is rather formal or media-style.
