i3lan إعلان
Moroccan Darija · noun
“i3lan” (إعلان) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning announcement, notice.
Meanings
- announcement, notice
- advertisement (TV ad, poster)
- official declaration
Usage
i3lan is in common use for an announcement: a posted notice, a press release, a job ad (i3lan 3la khedma). It also means advertising: had l-i3lan fih bezzaf d l-ḍḥek. For advertising, people also very often say "la pub" or "l-ichhar". In an official register, it means "declaration". The corresponding verb is 3len, "to announce". Pitfall: the gloss "declaration" is too narrow, because the most frequent meaning in daily life is "announcement".
Example
شفتي الإعلان ديال الخدمة؟
chefti l'i3lan dyal lkhedma?
“Did you see the job ad?”
