The word iDrab means a workers' strike. You often hear it about taxis, teachers, doctors or transport. The usual construction is dar iDrab ("to go on strike") or kayn iDrab ("there is a strike"). The plural is iDrabat. The word comes from the media register, but everyone uses it. In speech you also hear the French loanword "grève", pronounced grev. Do not confuse iDrab with Darb, "blow" or "to hit", which comes from the same root but has a different meaning.
