ijra2 إجراء

Moroccan Darija · noun

“ijra2” (إجراء) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning procedure, formality.

Meanings

  1. procedure, formality
  2. measure taken

Usage

Ijra2 comes from Standard Arabic and belongs to the administrative register. In darija it is used mostly in the plural, l2ijra2at or lijra2at, to talk about administrative formalities: papers, file, passport, visa. For example, dar l2ijra2at, "to go through the formalities". The word also means a measure taken by an authority. In the singular it is rarer and sounds more formal. In everyday life, many people simply say lwraq ("the papers") to mean the same thing, or use the French "procédure". Ijra2 is therefore not colloquial at all.

Example

باقي ما كمّلتش الإجراءات ديال الباسبور

ba9i ma kemmeltch l2ijra2at dyal lpasspor

“I haven't finished the passport formalities yet.”
