jaza جازا
Moroccan Darija · verb
“jaza” (جازا) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to reward, repay.
Meanings
- to reward, repay
Usage
Jaza, in the present yjazi, means "to reward" or "to repay". The verb is used mainly in thanks and blessing formulas where God is the subject: llah yjazik bikhir, "may God reward you well". This is the most frequent everyday use. In a more secular sense, it can also mean "to pay back" someone for what they did, good or bad. Do not confuse it with jaz, "to pass, to be allowed".
Example
الله يجازيك بخير على هادشي
llah yjazik bkhir 3la hadchi
“May God reward you well for this.”
