kaybni كايبني

Moroccan Darija · verb

“kaybni” (كايبني) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning he builds, he is building.

Meanings

  1. he builds, he is building
  2. he is building (a future)

Usage

Kaybni is the present-tense form of the verb bna, "to build", in the third person masculine. The English gloss "constructive" is misleading: it is not an adjective. The prefix ka- marks habitual or ongoing action, and "rah kaybni" stresses that he is in the middle of building. The verb is used literally, for a house or villa, and figuratively, for a future or a career. Depending on the region, you also hear the variant with the prefix ta-: taybni.

Example

راه كايبني فواحد الڤيلا

rah kaybni fwa7ed lvilla

“He is building a villa.”
