kddab كدّاب
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“kddab” (كدّاب) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning liar.
Meanings
- liar
Usage
An adjective, often used as a noun, for someone who lies, in particular out of habit. The feminine is kddaba and the plural kddabin. The intensive form, with the doubled consonant, stresses that the lying is recurrent. The word is blunt and can offend, like "liar" in English. A frequent pitfall in arabizi: kdab written without the doubling often stands for the past-tense verb, "he lied", as in chkon kdab 3lik (who lied to you). You therefore have to rely on context to tell the two apart.
Example
أنا ماشي كداب
ana machi kdab
“I'm not a liar.”
