kol ch8er كولّا شهر

Moroccan Darija · expression

“kol ch8er” (كولّا شهر) is an expression in Moroccan Darija meaning every month, monthly.

Meanings

  1. every month, monthly
  2. monthly, on a monthly basis

Usage

Kolla chhar is the combination of koll "every" and chhar "month". It is used for something that recurs at regular intervals: a rent, a salary, a bill, a visit. It usually goes at the end of the sentence, as an adverb of time. English says "monthly" as an adjective, whereas darija has no common equivalent: people will rather say "l-krā li kankhlles kolla chhar" (the rent that I pay every month). On the same pattern, there are kolla nhar (every day) and kolla 3am (every year).

Example

كنخلّص الكرا كولّا شهر.

kankhelles lkra kolla chhar.

“I pay the rent every month.”
