kol كل
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“kol” (كل) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning each, every.
Meanings
- each, every
- all, the whole
Usage
Kol is placed before the noun. Followed by an indefinite noun, it means "each": kol nhar (every day), kol wa7ed (everyone, each one). Followed by a definite noun or a suffixed pronoun, it means "all": kol nnas (everybody), kollhom (all of them). It appears in many fixed expressions: kolchi (everything), kol mra (every time), kol blasa (everywhere). The pronunciation varies: kol, koll, or kolla before certain words. Be careful: kol ("each") is easily confused with koul, the imperative of "to eat"; context tells them apart.
