Meanings
- suit (jacket and trousers)
Usage
Kostim is an adapted loanword from French costume. It refers to the man's suit, a matching jacket and trousers, worn for a wedding, an interview or at work. One says "lbes kostim" (to put on a suit). The usual plural is kostimat. Unlike in French, it does not denote a disguise or a traditional garment: for the djellaba or the caftan, their own names are used. A full suit with a waistcoat can be specified, but kostim alone is enough in everyday use.
