licence ليسانس
Moroccan Darija · noun
“licence” (ليسانس) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning bachelor's degree (university).
Meanings
- bachelor's degree (university)
- petrol (fuel)
Usage
The word lisans first refers to the university licence (bachelor's degree), the qualification that follows the bac. One says chedd lisans ("to get one's degree") or dar lisans f... ("to do a degree in..."). In a very similar form, often pronounced lisans or lissence, the word also means petrol at the pump: 3ammar b lisans ("to fill up with petrol"). Context decides between the two meanings. Note that a driving licence is not called lisans but permis.
