liser ليسار
Moroccan Darija · noun
“liser” (ليسار) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning the left, left side.
Meanings
- the left, left side
- to the left (with 3la)
Usage
Liser means the left side. The article is fused to the word, which explains the initial l-. It is the opposite of limen, "the right". To give a direction, it is almost always used with 3la: "3la liser", on/to the left; "dour 3la liser", turn left. The expression "ma kan3ref la limen la liser" means being completely lost. The spelling ليسار, closer to Standard Arabic, is also found; the usual pronunciation is liser. For the political left, people tend to say "lyassar".
