lmra لمرا
Moroccan Darija · noun
“lmra” (لمرا) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning the woman.
Meanings
- the woman
- the wife
Usage
Lmra is the form of mra, "woman", with the article. It is the common word for an adult woman as well as for a wife. "My wife" is mrati, "his wife" is mratu. The usual plural is l3yalat, sometimes nsa. The word is neutral and used in all registers. Watch out for a frequent homograph in writing: lmerra, "the time", is often written the same way, for example had lmerra, "this time". Only context tells them apart, since the doubled r is almost never marked in arabizi.
Example
لمرا ديالو خدامة فالسبيطار
lmra dyalo khddama f sbitar
“His wife works at the hospital.”
