lt7tani لتحتاني
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“lt7tani” (لتحتاني) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning the one below, lower.
Meanings
- the one below, lower
- from downstairs (floor, part)
Usage
T7tani is the adjective formed from ta7t (under, below). It means "the one below" or "lower". With the article it becomes lt7tani, with the feminine t7taniya and the plural t7taniyin. It is used to locate one item relative to another of the same kind: "ttiqa t7taniya" (the bottom level), "ljaj lt7tani" (the bottom drawer), "jiran lt7taniyin" (the neighbours downstairs). It is the opposite of fou9ani (the one above). The initial l- is often tied to the written form, which can mislead a learner: it is not part of the root. The word is common and informal.
Example
راه هو لتحتاني.
rah houa lt7tani.
“It's the one at the bottom.”
