Usage
Lyouma is the usual word for "today". The form lyoum also exists, but lyouma, with the final a, is the most Moroccan. It is often placed at the beginning or end of a sentence: "lyouma ma kaynch l-khedma". "Had nhar" is also said with the same meaning. By extension, it can mean "nowadays", for example "nnas d lyouma" (people of today). Note: to say "the day" in the general sense, use nhar, not lyoum. In dates, it is used as in French: "lyouma 25 ghocht".
