m3yor معيور

Moroccan Darija · noun

“m3yor” (معيور) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning insults, abuse.

Meanings

  1. insults, abuse
  2. foul language, exchange of insults

Usage

M3yor means insults in general, taken as a whole, rather than a single insult. It is found mainly in expressive phrases: chba3 fiya m3yor or chbe3ni m3yor, literally "he filled me up with insults", that is, "he showered me with abuse". One also says l-m3yor for coarse language in general, for example in messages exchanged during an argument. The word belongs to the everyday register and is not vulgar in itself, since it names the insult without uttering it. Pitfall: it is most often used as a collective noun with no indefinite article, where English uses a plural.
