m9boul مقبول

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“m9boul” (مقبول) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning acceptable, admissible.

Meanings

  1. acceptable, admissible
  2. nice, pleasant, likeable

Usage

M9boul first means "acceptable": "hadchi machi m9boul" (this is not acceptable), "wach m9boul?" (is that okay?). In darija, it also applies to people, in the sense of "likeable, appealing, charming". Thus "ch7al m9boul had dderri!" means "what a cute boy!". Used this way, it is a real compliment, without the "passable" connotation. For a school grade, however, it keeps the sense of "passable".
