ma9adir مقادير

Moroccan Darija · noun

“ma9adir” (مقادير) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning ingredients and quantities of a recipe.

Meanings

  1. ingredients and quantities of a recipe
  2. proportions, amounts

Usage

Lmqadir is the word heard on cooking shows and read in online recipes. It refers to the list of ingredients with their quantities, the equivalent of "you will need". It is found mostly at the head of a recipe: "lmqadir: kas dyal ddqi9, juj bidat…". The word is almost always plural. It stresses the amounts more than the products themselves: getting lmqadir wrong means getting the proportions wrong. At home, people also often say "dakchi lli khassna" (what we need).

Example

عطيني المقادير ديال الحريرة

3tini lmqadir dyal l7rira

“Give me the ingredients for the harira.”
