mamrebbich مامربّيش
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“mamrebbich” (مامربّيش) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning badly brought up.
Meanings
- badly brought up
- rude
Usage
Mamrebbich is the negation of mrebbi, "raised, brought up", formed with ma… ch. The word targets the upbringing received: calling someone mamrebbich implies that their family did not raise them well. The reproach is therefore more hurtful than mam2eddebch. It is very common, especially about children and young people: rah mamrebbich had lwliyed. The feminine is mamrebbiach, and the plural is mamrebbiinch. You may also hear the expression ma trebbach, "he wasn't raised properly". The term is informal and critical, but it is not vulgar.
Example
راه مامربيش هاد الوليد
rah mamrbbich had lwliyed
“This kid is ill-mannered.”
