Moroccan Darija · verb

“mattaf9ch” (ماتّافقش) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning not come to an agreement.

Meanings

  1. not come to an agreement
  2. don't agree (imperative)

Usage

Mattafeqch is the negative form of ttafeq, "to come to an agreement, to get along". It carries the negation ma… -ch. Depending on context, it means "he did not come to an agreement" or, in the negative imperative, "don't agree". The person is introduced with m3a, the subject of disagreement with 3la: mattafeqch m3ahom 3la t-taman. The word expresses the absence of agreement or arrangement rather than a quarrel. The register is common. In arabizi, the q is often written 9.
