mawad7ch ماواضحش

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“mawad7ch” (ماواضحش) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning unclear, ambiguous.

Meanings

  1. unclear, ambiguous
  2. shady, suspicious (of a matter)

Usage

Ma wa D7ch is the negative form of waD7, "clear", built with the discontinuous negation ma…ch. It is not a standalone adjective. It is used for an explanation, handwriting or a situation: lkalam dyalo ma waD7ch, "what he says isn't clear". The feminine is ma waD7aach, and the plural is ma waD7inch. The word can suggest that a matter is shady. In careful speech, one also hears machi waD7. Pitfall: the negation surrounds the word and does not simply come before it.

Example

الشرح ديالو ماواضحش، عاودو ليا

char7 dyalo ma waD7ch, 3awdo lia

“His explanation isn't clear, explain it to me again.”
