Moroccan Darija · adjective
“mkta2eb” (مكتئب) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning depressed, down.
Meanings

- gloomy, low-spirited
Usage
Mkta2eb is borrowed from Standard Arabic. It has spread into everyday darija, especially among young people and on social media, to say that someone is feeling low. The feminine is mkta2ba and the plural is mkta2bin. It is often used in the mild sense of "gloomy", not necessarily the medical sense. In a more colloquial register you also hear mdeyye9 ("oppressed, cramped") to express unease. Typical constructions: ana mkta2eb lyoum, "I'm depressed today"; 3lach nta mkta2eb ?, "why are you depressed?". The digit 2 marks the glottal stop.
Example
هاد الأيام راني مكتئب بزاف
