mo7tawa محتوى
Moroccan Darija · noun
“mo7tawa” (محتوى) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning content (media, internet).
Meanings
- content (media, internet)
- content of a text or document
Usage
Mo7tawa comes from Standard Arabic. It has become common in Morocco with social media, especially in expressions such as sani3 mo7tawa (content creator) or lmo7tawa dyal YouTube. It is often used to judge the quality of what is published: mo7tawa tafeh (worthless content), mo7tawa hadef (useful content). For the contents of an object, a box or a bag, mo7tawa is not used: people prefer an expression such as "chnou fih" ("what's in it"). The word therefore remains tied to media and writing. The plural mo7tawayat is rare in speech.
Example
هاد المحتوى ما فيه والو، غير تضييع الوقت
had lmo7tawa ma fih walo, ghir tdyi3 lwe9t
“This content is worthless, it's just a waste of time.”
