moghamara مغامرة
Moroccan Darija · noun
“moghamara” (مغامرة) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning adventure.
Meanings
- adventure
- risky venture, gamble
Usage
Moghamara comes from standard Arabic but is in common use in darija. It is used for a trip, a new experience or a risky decision, often with the verb dar: dar moghamara, "to embark on an adventure". The plural is moghamarat. The word sounds a little formal; it is frequent in the media, in films and among young people recounting their travels. In casual speech, expressions such as dkhel f chi haja, "to get into something", are sometimes preferred. Pitfall for English speakers: do not confuse it with mo2amara, "plot, conspiracy", whose pronunciation is close.
Example
السفر لصحرا بوحدي كانت مغامرة كبيرة.
safar l sa7ra b o7di kant moghamara kbira.
“Travelling alone in the desert was a great adventure.”
