Usage
Mtowwel is the participle of towwel (to lengthen, to make last). It describes what stretches out in time or space: a discussion, an absence or a lengthened garment. Plain "long" is rather twil, whereas mtowwel stresses that something has been lengthened or lasts longer than planned. In a more formal register, or on television, one hears 3la lmada lmtowwel, "in the long term", a phrase modeled on Standard Arabic. The feminine is mtowla and the plural mtowlin.
