n9i نقي

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“n9i” (نقي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning clean, tidy.

Meanings

  1. clean, tidy
  2. pure, clear (air, water)
  3. honest, innocent

Usage

As an adjective, n9i (feminine n9iya, plural n9iyin) first describes what is clean: lbit n9i, "the room is clean". It is also used for pure air or water, and figuratively for an honest person with no ulterior motives: weld n9i. It must be distinguished from the homographic verb n9i ("to clean"), which is very common: khassni n9i d-dar, "I have to clean the house". In that case, n9i is the first-person form of that verb. Only context tells them apart.
