nada نادى
Moroccan Darija · verb
“nada” (نادى) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to call out to someone.
Meanings
- to call out to someone
- to summon someone
Usage
Nada is used mainly to call someone aloud, so that they answer or come. The person called is introduced by the preposition 3la: nadi 3la khak, "call your brother". In the present tense, you say kaynadi, "he calls", and the imperative nadi is very common at home. For a phone call, people more often say 3iyyet 3la or tasel b. Do not confuse this verb with naḍ, "to get up", which sounds similar. The register is neutral and familiar.
