Meanings
- discipline
- strictness, punctuality
Usage
Nḍibaṭ, from Standard Arabic "inḍibaṭ", means discipline in the sense of respecting rules, schedules and hierarchy. It is used mostly at school, at work, in sport or in the army: "khassek nḍibaṭ" ("you need discipline"). The register is rather careful; in casual conversation, the same idea is often expressed with phrases like "mnaḍbaṭ" ("disciplined") or "kay7ter lwe9t" ("he respects the time"). It never means a school subject: for that sense, say mada.
