ness نص

Moroccan Darija · noun

“ness” (نص) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning half.

Meanings

  1. half
  2. middle
  3. half-and-half coffee (nss nss)

Usage

Ness means "half". It is a very frequent word. For the time, "w ness" means "and a half", i.e. "half past": ttlata w ness, half past three. Placed before a noun, it marks the half: ness khobza, half a baguette; ness sa3a, half an hour. With f, it indicates the middle: f ness ttriq, in the middle of the road. Doubled, ness ness refers, in a café, to a drink that is half coffee, half milk. The word also expresses an equal share. Pitfall: do not confuse ness with the verb or noun related to "text" in Standard Arabic.
