nndam الندم

Moroccan Darija · noun

“nndam” (الندم) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning regret, remorse.

Meanings

  1. regret, remorse

Usage

Nndam means the regret or remorse one feels after an act or a decision. It is the noun derived from the verb ndem, "to regret", which takes 3la: ndemt 3la dakchi lli dert, "I regretted what I did". The word is used in everyday conversation as well as in proverbs and songs. It is also heard in the form nndama, with the same meaning. The article is assimilated in speech: it is pronounced nnadam or nndam, with a doubled n, not "al-nadam". To simply say that you regretted something, the verb ndem is more natural than the noun.

النّدم ما كيرجّعش اللي فات

nndam ma kayrejje3ch lli fat
