pirmi بيرمي
Moroccan Darija · noun
“pirmi” (بيرمي) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning driving license.
Meanings
- driving license
Usage
Pirmi is an adapted loanword from French "permis". It is used almost only for the driving license. People say "dwezt l-pirmi" for "I took the driving test", "khdit l-pirmi" for "I got my license", and "9ra l-pirmi" for learning at a driving school. The p is often pronounced like a b, hence the Arabic spelling with ب. The word is very common and informal. In an administrative context, the Arabic form "rukhṣat s-siya9a" is more likely to be found.
Example
قداو ليا بيرمي حيت درت مخلفة وماخلستش
