r9i9 رقيق

Moroccan Darija · adjective

“r9i9” (رقيق) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning thin, skinny (person, animal).

Meanings

  1. thin, skinny (person, animal)
  2. thin (object, material)

Usage

R9i9 (feminine r9i9a, plural r9a9) is used for a thin or skinny person or animal, often with a nuance of deprivation: a child who doesn't eat enough, an underfed animal. It is readily intensified with bzzaf. It also describes a thin object, such as a piece of jewellery, a fabric or a dough. It is not always a compliment: to say "slim" in a flattering way, other expressions are preferred. Avoid carrying over the Standard Arabic meaning "delicate, refined", which is not the common usage in darija.
