rbet ربط

Moroccan Darija · verb

“rbet” (ربط) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to tie, to fasten, to bind.

Meanings

  1. to tie, to fasten, to bind
  2. to connect, to link
  3. to set up (appointment, relationship)

Usage

Rbet (imperfect yerbet) means "to tie" in the concrete sense: a rope, an animal, a package, a belt. You say rbet ssemta, "fasten the belt", and rbet lkelb, "tie up the dog". By extension, it means "to connect" two things: rbet had ttil b dak, "connect this wire to that one". The passive or reflexive form ttrbet means "to be tied, to get attached". The opposite is 7ell, "to untie, to undo". In the emotional sense, mrbout b is said of someone very attached to a person or a place.
