rkeb ركب

Moroccan Darija · verb

“rkeb” (ركب) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to get on, ride (vehicle, mount).

Meanings

  1. to get on, ride (vehicle, mount)
  2. to sit with someone (in a vehicle)
  3. to seize (fear, anger)

Usage

Rkeb (imperfect yrkeb) means to get on a vehicle or an animal: rkeb f tomobil, rkeb f ttobis, rkeb 3la l3awd. The preposition f is used for a vehicle, and 3la or fo9 for a mount or a bike. For "to take the bus", people often say rkeb f ttobis rather than "take". Figuratively, an emotion can "get on" someone: lkhof rkeb fih, "fear gripped him". Do not confuse it with rekkeb, with a doubled consonant, which means to install or assemble a device.
