rwina روينة
Moroccan Darija · noun
“rwina” (روينة) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning mess, disorder.
Meanings
- mess, disorder
- trouble, commotion, chaos
Usage
Rwina first refers to physical disorder: a messy room, belongings strewn about. The word extends to a confused or agitated situation: an argument, a scuffle, a matter that goes wrong. The most frequent construction is "dar rwina", which means to make a mess but also to stir up trouble or cause a scandal. One also says "kayna rwina" to signal that things are heating up somewhere. The register is informal and everyday. The word is not rude: it is readily used with children ("ma tdirch rwina!"). The English word "ruin" can be misleading, because rwina does not mean destruction.
