sikritira سكريتيرة
Moroccan Darija · noun
“sikritira” (سكريتيرة) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning secretary (woman).
Meanings
- secretary (woman)
- assistant
Usage
Sikritira is a borrowing from French "secrétaire", adapted with the feminine ending -a. It is very common for the secretary of an office, a doctor or an administration. You go to her to make an appointment, hand in a file or get information. It is much more natural in darija than Standard Arabic katiba. The most common plural is sikritirat. The Arabic spelling varies, with or without a ya after the ra, without any change in meaning.
Example
سكريتيرة مريضة اليوم
sikritira mriDa lyoum
“The secretary is sick today.”
