sina3i صناعي
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“sina3i” (صناعي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning industrial.
Meanings
- industrial
- artificial, man-made
Usage
Sina3i is a formal-register adjective, taken from standard Arabic. Its feminine is sina3iya. It is used mainly in fixed expressions like lhay sina3i ("industrial zone"), which you hear everywhere in Morocco, or l-qamar sina3i ("satellite"). It can also mean "artificial", for example in 3cheb sina3i ("synthetic turf"). In this sense, the French word "synthétique" is often used as is. Be careful not to confuse it with sanay3i or sne3i, which refer to the craftsman.
Example
خدام فالحي الصناعي ديال عين السبع.
khddam f lhay sina3i dyal 3in sbe3.
“He works in the industrial zone of Aïn Sebaâ.”
