sirri سرّي
Moroccan Darija · adjective
“sirri” (سرّي) is an adjective in Moroccan Darija meaning secret.
Meanings
- secret
- confidential
Usage
Sirri describes what is hidden or confidential: ra9m sirri, "secret code," for example that of a bank card, or itifa9 sirri, "secret agreement." The feminine is sirriya. The word is of a rather formal register: it comes from Standard Arabic and is used mainly in fixed expressions, administration and the media. In conversation, for "it's a secret," people rather say hadi sser, with the noun sser. Beware of homographs in Arabic script: sri, "go" (feminine imperative), and the borrowed form seri, "series," are written almost the same.
Example
راه مدايرين اتفاق سري
rah mdayrin itifa9 sirri
“They made a secret agreement.”
